Five students presented research they have conducted in conjunction with faculty in the Chemistry Department at the 2015 Southeast Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society, which was held November 4-7, in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Deon Miles, Dr. Bethel Sharma Seballos, and Dr. Matt Sanderson attended the meeting with the following students: Lauren Petrosh (C'16), Tia Strickland (C'16), Cid Oculam (C'16), Sonia Francone (C'17), and Emily Shriner (C'18).
Lauren Petrosh (C’16) presented her work with Dr. Eric Dodds (University of Nebraska) in a poster entitled “Discrimination of carbohydrate isomers as transition metal adducts using ion mobility spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry.”
Tia Strickland (C’16) presented her work with Dr. Piero Gardinali (Florida International University) in a poster entitled “Plant uptake of commonly prescribed pharmaceuticals and Splenda® in reclaimed water by water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes).”
Cid Oculam (C’16) presented his work with Dr. Bethel Sharma Seballos in a poster entitled “Heat shock response in lung fibroblasts to changes in environmental calcium.” Oksana Creech (C’17) was a co-author.
Sonia Francone (C’17) and Emily Shriner (C’18) presented their work with Dr. Deon Miles in a poster entitled “Size characterization and alternative synthesis of monolayer-protected quantum dots.” Luis Tinoco (C’15), Fernando Acosta (C’15), and William Wright (C’16) were co-authors on this poster.
Professor Sanderson gave a talk entitled “Screening racemic catalysts in Pt-catalyzed asymmetric synthesis of P-stereogenic bis(phosphines)” in the Division of Inorganic Chemistry.
